Established in 1961, the Korean Society of Gastroenterology (KSG) is committed to the development of Korean gastroenterology by providing its members with qualitative education and training and encouraging the active exchange of scientific knowledge.

The society is proud to have an active members of over 1908 which includes academics and research leaders and variety of clinicians specializing in gastroenterology (internal medicine, surgery, radiology, pathology and so on).

In addition to the Korean Journal of Gastroenterology, the Society's official scientific journal, it has been publishing "Gut and Liver" since 2007 with the aim of increasing scientific exchanges with international societies, in collaboration with all gastroenterology-related societies in Korea including the Korean Association for the Study of the Liver, the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Korean Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, the Korean College of Helicobacter and Upper Gastrointestinal Research, the Korean Association for the Study of Intestinal Diseases, and the Korean Society of Pancreatobiliary Diseases. The Korean Society of Gastroenterology will do its utmost to make "Gut and Liver" Korea's most representative and internationally recognized magazine on gastroenterology.

To further promote international exchanges, the Society has also been holding the Seoul International Digestive Disease Symposium (SIDDS) biannually since 1991. SIDDS invites eminent speakers with noteworthy accomplishments from both Korea and overseas, providing an opportunity to share the latest information and ideas in the various areas related to the field of gastroenterology.

The Korean Society of Gastroenterology is not only interested in promoting scientific exchanges both nationally and internationally, but is also deeply committed to establishing standardized medical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, through which KSG hopes to contribute to improving and upgrading the medical environment in Korea. As its first project, the Society will establish a guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Tumors (IPMN) of the pancreas in the first half of 2008, which will be followed by guidelines on other common and important gastrointestinal diseases in Korea.

With a half-century of history as its foundation, the Korean Society of Gastroenterology will continue to build on its roots within the scientific and medical accomplishments of its past and present members in the fields of gastrointestinal, hepatic and pancreatobiliary diseases, so that the young researchers of tomorrow can achieve even greater feats in the field of gastroenterology.

Logo

The logo represents the Korean Society of Gastroenterology itselft as we combine the image symbolizing the shape of digestive organs and the Korean traditional Great Absolute, and wrote the name of society at the bottom of logo in Korean.

We decorated the overall logo with a frame which symbolizes the universe and expressed the meaning of pursuing the globalization as we put the name of the Korea Society of Gastroenterology in English.

The shape of esophagus, stomach and duodenum are located at the center of logo. The upper part of the shape also signifies liver and gallbladder while the lower part of shape signifies pancreas, small intestine, and spleen. The smooth curve shape at the lower part signifies colon.

By decorationg the shape of various digestive organs with round frame, we wnat to deliver the message that not only all digestive organs but also studies and researches on digestive organs are closely related. Also, we want to emphasize that we pursues the well-coordinated and systematic development of all related subspecialties (gastroenterology, surgery, pediatrics, radiology, pathology and so on) with close cooperation.
